My knitting story.

I have always been interested in arts and crafts, ever since I was little. I enjoyed coloring and creating things with clay and whatever else I could get my hands on. I live have a family of very creative people. My brother likes to draw, my sister is a makeup artist and loves to sing and entertain us with her comedy and acting skills. My mother dabbles in several things from interior decorating to party planning to scrap-booking. And my father is a techie guy. He can fix almost anything it seems. I love drawing. I found that I was very good at it. I would always doodle on my notebook pages in school and loved school projects. When I would visit my great-great aunts house, she would have knitting needles and yarn sitting out in a basket in her living room. I wanted to learn how to do it. In 2004 I picked up a book on Knitting. It caught my eye at the store. I saved some money up and returned to the store and purchased the book. It came with everything needed for a beginner; yarn, a set of knitting needles, a yarn needle, some buttons and 8 projects to do inside of the book. I was hooked! I tried a few of the projects and moved on to my first major project; a scarf and hat for my former manager. She absolutely loved it. I even made a hat and scarf for myself. I was very proud of my good work. Later on I picked up crocheting from purchasing a book as well. If someone were to come to me 6 years ago and tell me that I would have a little business in knitting baby booties, I don't think I would have believed them, lol. I am truly grateful for all the support I have received from family and friends. It is truly my motivation to keep doing what I'm doing. I hope to one day expand my business to start selling more items besides baby booties. Right now, I will stick to baby booties and perfecting my patterns :)
Faux Shoe Baby Booties
I was working on a pattern the other day, in an attempt to make "tennis shoes" as baby booties. I think I attempted 3 or 4 times and was very frustrated by it because it wasn't turning out the same way as the picture, lol. I set it aside for a little while and came back to it. I still wasn't getting the pattern right, so I decided to improvise and do something else with it. So here is my own variation of a faux shoe baby bootie. And I must say, it turned out cute! :)

Mary Jane Madness!
I like to dibble dabble in many different artsy things. Not only do I knit, but I crochet as well! I wanted to try a new pattern out with a crochet hook. I found what seemed to be a pretty easy pattern for Mary Jane's with the "ruffled sock" attached. It started out pretty well, until I realized that I was crocheting wrong, lol. I had to unravel my work! I could not believe it, but I was not going to give up! I was literally up ALL night working on ONE bootie! Lol. It took me four hours to get the pattern right! Now it usually does not take me THAT long to knit or crochet, but I was having so many issues that it took double the time to do it! I will say that it is STINKIN' CUTE! I used "Vanna's Choice" Yarn in an orange color and a berry color. I will be honest, I will not be making a ton of these, lol. But I'm sure that once I perfect the pattern, I'll be able to do more. Right now, they are TRULY a SPECIAL order! If you really REALLY would like a pair, I do not mind making them for you :) I'm that kind a girl, lol. They are $14.00 a pair. Here's the finished product! Hope you like it! Comments please! Lol!

Team-Spirit
So I wanted to be sure I left EVERYONE know that I can pretty much accomodate any color coordination you would like. One of my favorite baby booties to make are the sports colors. I've had a few orders where some customers have requested specific colors, like for the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders. I've even done a pair with the 'L.A. Lakers colors (my fave b-ball team). I hope to get more orders for football team colors, school colors and even sorority/fraternity colors. Spread the news everyone!!

Baby Booties by Qui
I started my mini-business a little over a month ago. I was watching an episode of 19 and Counting, and someone wanted to learn how to crochet baby booties for the new baby arriving. They had no experience in crocheting and had some trouble getting started. As I was looking at the show, I wondered how hard it would be to knit a pair of baby booties instead of crocheting them (I misplaced my crochet hooks). I searched and searched for a knitting pattern and found one that I thought would work out. I ended up having to recalculate measurements to fit the size needles I owned, as well as the kind of yarn I had. After a couple practices, I successfully knitted a pair of yellow baby booties. I was on a roll after that. I learned how to make pom poms and crocheted (with my hands) to make ties for the baby booties. Over night my mini business was created. I was so excited! My family and friends have been really supportive throughout the process. I pray that my sales will increase and one day I hope to knit and sell bigger items.
